One of the most distressing images is seeing a seagull or turtle stuck in a six pack ring. This sounds a bit negative for the EcoFrenzy 'bright blog', but now for the good part, a craft beer company has come up with a brilliant idea to counter the problem.
Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach, Florida has created edible six pack rings. They are made from beer by-products during the brewing process such as barley and wheat and are completely safe for humans, turtles and fish to eat.
So simple, and not only are they edible but they are also 100% biodegradable and compostable, the ultimate in sustainability.
The only drawback is that edible six-pack rings are more expensive to produce than conventional plastic products, but the company hopes that customers will be willing to pay a little more in order to help the environment and animal life. And who knows, in time other breweries will join the crusade and production costs may come down.
