Food, Supermarket and Voucher Savings
EcoFrenzy offers a list of some of the many organisations helping with savings on food and supplying money saving vouchers...
Every year in the UK over 7 million tonnes of food and drink is thrown away, a lot of which has past its 'best before' date, but would still be perfectly good to eat. Approved Food specialises in surplus and short-dated stock, food that is either near or just passed its 'best before' date – allowing them to pass on huge savings to their customers.
Thousands of tonnes of good food from the food industry that would otherwise go to waste is redistributed by FareShare around the country. There are 20 FareShare Regional Centres across the UK from Aberdeen to Brighton where the food is used by partner charities. There are 6,723 of them including breakfast clubs, homeless hostels and women’s refuges to help feed those who need it. The food provided by FareShare contributes towards 28.6 million meals per year.

Olio is a free app that connects neighbours with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your baker, or the groceries in your fridge when you go away. Olio can also be used for non-food household items too.
Supermarket Own Brand Guide
This site provides tasting notes, a score out of ten and health and nutrition information on each product. Additionally, it indicates whether that product is organic, Fairtrade or suitable for vegetarians. Should it contain one of the major fourteen allergenic ingredients: celery, cereals, crustaceans (e.g. lobster & crab), eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs (e.g. mussels & oysters) mustard, nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, soya and sulphites) that will be displayed alongside the tasting note, under ‘Health.’ Likewise indicated will be the alcohol units. Levels of salt, saturated fat and sugar will be shown only if per hundred grams they stray into the Amber(medium) or Red(high) zone.
Where would we be without a local supermarket? With their convenience and wide selection of products you will never be short of anything. More convenience can be found with the great savings you can make using supermarket vouchers from vouchercloud. Available to use in all participating supermarkets, you can find that your weekly shopping bill will be greatly reduced. A lot of the discounts work by reducing the cost of individual items as well as overall discounts on your main shop. Check the terms and conditions of the offer before confirming your choice.
