In 2004, Richard Branson established ‘Virgin Unite’, a non-profit foundation. It is built on the belief that the only way we can address the scale of the challenges facing the world today is by revolutionising the way businesses, government and the social sector work together - driving business as a force for good.
Recently Richard Branson has pledged to commit $3 billion, all profits from his travel firms over the next ten years, to help reduce global warming.
He says businesses should “stand up” to climate change deniers and they should “get out of our way”, referring to a survey last year of thousands of peer reviewed papers in scientific journals that found 97.1% agreed climate change is man-made.
Richard Branson also states that he was “enormously impressed” by Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook, who has bluntly told climate change sceptic investors to ditch their stocks if they do not support his pledge to slash greenhouse gas emissions. In particular his determination that the company will continue to invest in sustainable energy.
